Innovation has been the force disrupting the market. Most of the business worldwide is based on products speaks for itself. If there is a new invention which can benefit mass people, then whole world spins around it. But the inventors don’t feel the significance. For them it is just a thing they love to do. Meet the duo who came up with an idea with great potential.

It was just another day in Mount Carmel school. Anand Gangadharan and Mohak Balla were at class 10. These two guys came up with an idea for science project. It was simple and great at the same time. The idea is to generate current using shoe, based on electromagnetic induction. Their set up will be attached to the shoes. When people use the shoe, due to compression and expansion in sole the current will be generated. That is not all. Their set up includes a provision to charge your mobile. The entire idea is to generate current and charge your mobile on the go. These two little geniuses call it as ‘Walkie Mobi Charger’. The beauty is in the duration when normal charger powers 25%, walkie mobi charger can power 40% of battery.

Imagine what a perfect set up of this can do to humans. All of sudden, everyone would be walking , jogging on the streets. The duo took time to fine tune the model. It was built completely in house by them. The first model was good but huge, so they underwent few iterations. The current version is lightweight, attachable to the heels. But the ‘never settle down’ duo is looking for financial support, to place beneath the sole for ultimate comfort of users. It appeared few sponsors contacted the duo but things didn’t go further.

Mohak was indulged in circuits during his 5th class. So the invention is just another toy in their kitty. Anand was also interested in such projects. They are friends from class 2 and became best buddies during 8th class. Even though both are in different academic path the bond only got stronger. Anand is doing his Btech CSC, Mohak is dropping an year to do JEE MAINS. But still they stay connected. A true friendship meant for lifetime. The duo didn’t drop their golden egg. Once they settle down with academics, have plans to fine tune the device and enter the market in style.

Family support, continuous motivation from teachers is lifeline for these kids. Because in current scenario a school student cannot find time to work on their own ideas. The school culture demands lot of their time and attention. It was hard to carry on the innovation but worth every second. Unlike most of the kids who win several medals and accolades, the duo won the hearts of public. By considering the level of comfort the device could provide for the users. The idea is fascinating. If you imagine the impact of the walki mobile charger in day to day life, it will worth more than many medals. A true innovation for mankind at the right time. Bravo!

Shalini Kumari, a girl from Patna, Bihar. She loves her grandfather. Her grandfather loves to visit the rooftop garden everyday. He met with an accident in 2011. After that he couldn’t see the garden anymore. Because even with the Walker support, he couldn’t climb the steps. A well-known drawback of common walker. Shalini couldn’t see her grandfather in this state. She wanted to help him. Thus inventing the adjustable walker. A walker with innovative self-locking mechanism in the front section. She wasn’t an engineering student nor had any exposure to such technology before. Her urge to help grandfather led to this need of the hour innovation.

Adjustable walker is first of its kind in market. Shalini wanted to help and coined the idea. She shared it with a friend who won an award at IGNITE in 2009. As per his suggestion, shalini drafted the idea and submitted for IGNITE event in 2011. Her idea was shortlisted among the 4000 applicants. it was a heartwarming news. National Innovation Foundation (NIF) decided to make this concept into reality. Few more versions were made and finalized. Another external agency was also roped in to make alternative concept. Both were tested for various aspects. They also filed a patent in Shalini’s name. Once the prototype was made, the news spread among the public. She received the National Innovation Award in engineering section from Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam sir. It was an unforgettable moment for Shalini.

She was the happiest person to see her idea was made into reality. NIF decided to make 10000 walkers for commercial usage. The adjustable walker costs around 3000. It can bear upto 100kg weight. A foldable seat also fixed for the user to take rest. It is lightweight, stable, and suitable for all type of stairs. It can also be used in inclined surfaces. She had the opportunity to showcase her invention to various locations. A Rehabilitation centre expressed interest in buying the adjustable walker. They also decided to lend financial support for Shalini. She wanted to keep that money for her future educational expenses. She believed it could reduce her parents burden.

Engineering is not even her field of interest. She invented the adjustable walker out of pure motivation for her grandfather. She is very happy about the device, since it can help physically challenged people a lot. She aspires to become a doctor, so that elder people like her grandfather should not suffer from illness. Shalini kumari has two brothers and she loves to play cricket with them. She also loves to play badminton. Her parents and school staffs gave full support for her to try different things. She participated in various creative competitions in her school.

She is an inspiration for students who love to make a difference in other’s life. An aspiring doctor who invented an adjustable le walker is the best motivation that you can get ever. The actions came out of pure love and urge to help her grandfather. Anything is possible if you put the heart and soul in what you do. Do what you love!
