Medical Institutes recommends at least 10 hours of sleep for kids until 18

Growth hormones secretes the most during deep sleep. Until 18, several growth processes take place. So enough sleep is a must. American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends the below sleep duration.

4-12 months old: 12–16 hours (including naps).
1-2 years old: 11–14 hours (including naps).
3–5 years old: 10–13 hours (including naps).
6–12 years old: 9–12 hours.
13–18 years old: 8–10 hours.

When kids sleep for enough time, their performance improves in many aspects. They also get more control of emotion. Sleep is a rest-activity for the outer world. But for science, it is the most important time for kids.

Lack of sleep can reverse the effects and the impact will be carried for several years. Those who didn’t get enough sleep shown poor performance in several fields.

So, sleep is more important for kids. Please make sure your kids get enough sleep. Take care.

Kids get access to the internet easy in today’s world. So edutainment stands out as child-friendly content. We also had similar content during the mid-’70s of the 20th century. But never got the limelight as like now. It has the potential to become the norm in schools in future.

Yelling and hitting your kids is reducing their self-esteem

Parents can debate on this point for several hours. But we should think from the kid’s point of view. We often ignore their perspective and try to impose our idea in their mind. While the intention is good, the way of approach could ruin the overall aim. By yelling and hitting your kids, you are enforcing low self-esteem in them.

Almost every parent has yelled at their kids at some time. Some even feel it as an inevitable part of parenting. But trust me, these forceful behaviours received differently in the kid’s mind. Though it helps you to fix the bad habits, it can work only for the short term. The main problem is, they lack the skills like critical thinking, analysing the situation and so on.

So, instead of yelling and hitting, you have to spend time to sit and explain things. Positive infusion and appreciation of their good habits will improve their behaviour. Please move the yelling and hitting your kids to the bad parenting section, never do that again. It affects their self-esteem in the long run.

Scolding or forceful change is not doing any good for your kids

Parents should take care of their kids. No argument in it. But the way it has been done so far is the real problem. When parents try to pinpoint kids and scold to change the bad habits , they actually make it worse. Many child experts confirm it. Scolding could only make things worse.

Positive reinforcement is the only way to change your kid’s bad habits. As adults, we need to display maturity in understanding how kid’s psychology works. We should not try to directly change the bad ones. Instead, infuse the opposite good ones and appreciate whenever your kids do it. Kids do not do what we say, they do what we expect. So the rewards for their positive habits, inspire them to repeat it more.

So never try to change bad ones. Instead, add an alternate good habit and appreciate kids whenever they do it. Kids get inspired to repeat it more as they grow. The result is, you have cultivated a good habit and also removed the bad ones. Time to show some maturity in handling your kids. Take care.

Obviously parents spend less time on kid’s social skills. This is considered as a fracture in the fabric of society. Empathy towards others, caring and sharing things are as important as being successful. So parents should give more importance to moral values.

Kids do not listen to parents but focus on what they expect. So, a little more appreciation and discussion on moral values at home is need of the hour.
